439. The cause of dumbness.

We are aware that deficiency in hearing leads to deafness, and issues in eyesight leads to visual impairment.

But issues in the mouth are not attributed as a reason for dumbness in humans.

When there is deficiency in hearing in a person, the words spoken by others do not get registered in the hearts of the listener.

In verse 2:18 of the Quran the Almighty while talking about hypocrites calls them, deaf, blind and dumb.

The reason for all these three deficiencies is seen in verse 2:7 of the Quran.

This verse (2:7) says their hearts and ears are sealed and their eyes are blinded.

It implies they are blind because their sight is blocked, and because their ears are sealed, they are deaf.

These are facts everyone is aware of for ages.

But when talking about them being dumb, the Quran says their hearts are sealed, and not their mouths.

The fact, deafness in a person is the result of the sealing of his heart was discovered several years after Prophet Muhammad.

An illiterate like Prophet Muhammad cannot have declared the same on his own, with the help of knowledge gained from the society that existed at his time. Hence this is yet another proof the Quran is the word of God.

438. The zam zam water spring.

This verse of the Quran (3:97) says there are ‘clear proofs available in Makkah’. By clear proof it is meant, is devoid of any obscurities and doubtfulness, and can be witnessed by people, and withstand all scrutiny.

There may be much more evidence not yet witnessed by people, and may be discovered in the future. But the most significant evidence is the ZamZam spring.

Prophet Ibrahim left behind his wife Hajr, and son Ismail in an isolated place at the behest of Almighty God. When Ismail as a child cried out for water it was Archangel Jibreel who created a water spring by striking the ground. This water spring is in existence even today and is known as the ZamZam well located in the place now known as Makkah.

This water spring now known as the Zam Zam well is the greatest wonder that stands testimony to the fact Islam is the true religion of God.

This well is 18 feet in width and 14 feet deep.

With an all-time water storage of 5 feet deep.

Water is drawn from this well every second of the day, and people from all parts of the world gather there every day, and during the time of Haj and the month of Ramadan, nearly 3 million people gather there every day, and this well is the only source of supply of water for the entire floating as well as the permanent population.

The people from different countries of the world who gather carry with them a minimum of 30 liters each on their journey back home. .

And the water from the same well is being supplied to people who gather at the second most important masjid of the world at Madina.

The fact that a well in a desert without any qualifying agent nearby in the form of a lake or a pond or a river or a canal can supply nearly 3 million people non-stop without getting dried up is the biggest wonder of all.

Any water spring for that matter gets dried up within a period of a few or many years, but this spring remaining alive for centuries together is again a wonder.

Any water source is bound to be covered with algae and organisms that contaminate the water, and is the reason disinfectants like chlorine are added at the source. But water from the Zamzam well, right from the time it was sourced till today no disinfectants has been used and neither any safety measures utilized to protect it.

Water which is not protected by proper treatment normally becomes unfit for human consumption, but water from this source when tested in 1971 by a lab in Europe found it to be the most fit for human consumption.

And it was found to be quite different from water from other sources. The presence of calcium and magnesium were found to be more in this water than from other sources. These salts have a rejuvenation effect on humans, and people who drink it can experience the same. This water also contains fluoride that destroys germs.

This wonder known as the zamzam water spring, need not be considered and equated with other wonders of the world.

The other wonders have not been subjected to scrutiny and are blind beliefs. But it is practically seen that the water from this spring is being supplied for the past thousands of years continuously, after undergoing various tests, hence this remains as a true wonder, without a parallel.

437. The factor that determines the sex a baby yet to be born.

The Quran in many places mentions the need for a female egg and a male sperm to result in a baby. In verse (75:39) of the Quran while mentioning the factor that determines the sex of the baby, it says the sex is determined not by both the mother and father, but by the male alone.

The fact that a female does not play any part in determining the sex of an unborn baby declared by the scientific world recently has found mention in the Quran some hundreds of centuries back proving the Quran to be the word of God. We are all aware of the fact that an egg from a female and sperm from a male are needed for the formation of a baby. The egg contains 23 chromosomes and the sperm that fertilizes the egg also has 23 chromosomes

Out of these 23 chromosmes from each sex, 22 determine the varous genetic characteristics of the yet to be born baby, such as the color, shape, size, etc., but it is the remaining one pair, that determines the sex of the unborn baby. The chromosomes that determine the sex of the baby are known as ‘X’ chromosomes in females, and ‘Y’ chromosomes in males. Thereby a combination of ‘xy’ on fusion from male and female results in male offspring and a combination of ‘xx’ turns out to be a female one.

The chromosomes of males may sometimes be ‘x’ or ‘y’.

A pairing of ‘x’ from the male an ‘y’ chromosome would result in the baby being ‘xy’ a male. And a pairing of ‘x’ chromosomes from male with that of an ‘x’ from female would result in the baby being born as a female. Since all the chromosomes of the female are the ‘x’ type, the female does not play any part in the determination of the sex of the unborn baby, because only the presence of ‘y’ chromosomes in the male plays deciding factor in the determination of th sex of the baby. The discovery of this fact now by scientists of today confirms the Quran’s message centuries ago by its usage of the word ‘From him’.

436. Underwater delivery of babies.

Verses (19:23,24) of the Quran say underwater delivery of babies would be less painful. Today’s scientific world has discovered the same.

Underwater delivery of babies is in vogue in Russia, and it is being found in studies, this practice makes it easy for the mothers to deliver babies.

The baby was present in the womb floating in a fluid, and when the baby is delivered in a similar medium which it is already used to the baby feels a natural conducive atmosphere and the cold water in which it is delivered makes the baby more immune to diseases.

There are swimming pools in hospitals in Russia kept always ready for deliveries

435. Do the poor need to get married?

The first of these verses (24:32,33) of the Quran say not to cite reasons of poverty to stay away from getting married.

The second verse says not to wait to get married until you get rid of poverty. This seems to be self-contradictory. Since these two guidelines apply to two different people in two different circumstances, they are not self-contradictory.

When we get slaves under our control get married, the Almighty would make them wealthier is the message conveyed in the first message.

The message here is if the owners of slaves help them to get married, the Almighty would grant the slaves wealth to carry on their married life.

The message conveyed by the second verse is, if people who are not under, the control of others as slaves need to wait in a disciplined way until arrangements are made for marriage expenses like Mahar etc.

The phrase ‘After marriage He will make them a self-satisfying parent out of them refers to them

Since the two verses are addressing two different issues there is no contradiction.

434. What are Illiyeen and Sijjin?

Verses (83:8, 83:19) of the Quran talk about two records that are maintained, known as Illiyeen and Sijjin.

The souls of the dead are immediately carried upwards into the world above.

The souls of the virtuous are carried upwards and registered in the Illiyeen, then brought back to earth, for questioning in the grave, this takes place in seconds. Prophet Muhammad said when the soul of an evil person is carried above to the Lord, He orders it to be taken to the depths of the earth and get it registered there in the book known as Sijjin.

433. Places of worship of other faiths.

This verse (22:40) of the Quran gives important advice regarding communal harmony.

All religions of this world have their own places of worship, held in high regard by its people, while members of other religions do not pay much attention to it, this is a normal tendency.

At times of communal tension, it is usually the places of worship that are attacked first. This is the result when people are carried over by emotions and stop thinking rationally.

Since people from each religion consider their place of worship dearer to them than their own property, they indulge in counter violence.

Hence an attack on the place of worship of others turns out to be an attack on our own place of worship.

From the phrase ‘Had the Almighty not prevented some of you through some others all places of worship including the masjids would have been in tatters, is the sensible advice offered to people through these verses. This verse explains, though other places of worship may not be considered as one by Muslims, they do not have the right to attack the same.

432. The reason for Prophet Ibrahim to lie.

In verse (21:63) of the Quran, it is being said Prophet Ibrahim disfigured all the small idols and left alone the biggest idol in a place of worship at his home town. When members of his community questioned him he said the biggest idol there was responsible and if need be they investigate the idols that lay in pieces.

The answer by Prophet Ibrahim was not the truth, but he said that to prove the fact that idols did not possess any power in them to make things happen in the world. This kind of sensible handling of situations at time of spreading God’s word is permitted.

Prophet Ibrahim’s words would not constitute a lie in this situation because his words that the bigger idol disfigured the smaller one was not said in fear of saving himself from his community members, but to let his community people ponder over their concept of God.

The people of his community who believed the idols as God, did not believe the words of Prophet Ibrahim, when he said the bigger idol disfigured the smaller ones.

Here the person who said knows the connotation of what he said and the ones who were told also know the connotations with which they are listening   The one who hears the answer also knows it is a lie in a different context, and needs to be considered as truth in the guise of a lie.

To know more about this please refer to points 162, 236, 336, of this explanation compilation.

Please refer to explanation points 433, and 473 of this compilation to know whether Prophet Ibrahim was justified in breaking the idols.
